CSTO PA Secretariat Took Part in a Commemorating Ceremony for the Victims of the Siege of Leningrad
September 8 is the 84th anniversary of the beginning of the Siege of Leningrad, one of the most tragic chapters in the history of the Great Patriotic War.
Solemn mourning ceremonies are being held in St. Petersburg in memory of the city's defenders. The main ceremony has taken place at the Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery, attended by representatives of the Secretariat of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
"The Siege of Leningrad is one of the most tragic and heroic pages in our history. The courage, fortitude and unyielding spirit of the defenders and residents of the city will forever remain an example of true patriotism and love for the Motherland. Remembering the severe trials endured by the people of Leningrad, we feel a duty to preserve peace and pass on the memory of this great victory," said Vladimir Bondurovsky, Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
Traditionally, commemorative readings take place in the city. For seven years in a row, starting in 2018, residents of St. Petersburg have been reading lists of victims of the siege in the courtyards of residential buildings, at schools and in city squares.
Special exhibitions and programs dedicated to the mournful occasion are to take place in St. Petersburg. Particularly, a commemorative event will be held at St. Isaac's Cathedral, where the concert "The Hour of Courage of Leningrad" will begin at 20:00.
