CEC of Russia: Countering External Interference in the Elections Involves Consulting CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Legislation
On September 14, at the press-conference in Russian CEC information center, attempts of external interference in Russian elections were discussed.
For reference. Russia is holding elections since September 12 to September 14. 20 Russian regions are electing governors during the single voting day. 11 Russian territories elect deputies of regional parliaments; and 25 cities - deputies of representative bodies of regional administration centers. In total, around five thousand election campaigns on different levels are held in 81 Russian regions. Since July 1st, more than 15 million attacks on the CEC resources have been identified.
Igor Borisov, member of the Russian CEC, noted that "countering external interference in the elections involves consulting CSTO Parliamentary Assembly legislation."
Sergei Pospelov, CSTO PA Executive Secretary, said that CSTO states undertake necessary legislative initiatives and create a so-called "electoral security contour."
"Russian Central Election Commission has accumulated extensive and notable experience in countering external interference in electoral processes and organization of elections in the context of increased danger," — Sergei Pospelov declared.
CSTO PA Executive Secretary also expressed his gratitude to the Russian CEC for common work on model legislative acts that became a basis for a whole set of initiatives aimed at ensuring electoral security.
As you may recall, electoral sovereignty is the key subject in CSTO Parliamentary Assembly legislative activity. In particular, CSTO PA Recommendations on protecting electoral sovereignty have been included in the Concept of National Security of the Republic of Belarus.
